Achieving “wellness” is not a final destination. It’s the small steps along the way which make us better than who we were yesterday.
Fluidform founder Kirsten King attended the SOUL Festival at Soneva, Maldives, connecting with wellness leaders from around the world to move, nourish and share. After 4 days, here were Kirsten’s 10 takeaways to live well (and they are easier, and more achievable, than you might think).

- Connection. Health isn’t just about what’s in your fridge, but the people you sit down and eat with. Put energy into the people around you.
- Grounding. Take a walk outside, and leave your shoes at home! Walking barefoot can improve foot and ankle flexibility, strengthen your foot muscles and enhance balance and jumping skills. Beyond this, studies have shown that walking barefoot for 40 minutes, four times a week, can increase cognitive speed and concentration, while decreasing brain stress.
- Sleep. Reframe sleep as “repairing”. The simplest form of control you have over your sleep is your bedtime. Aim for consistency.

“There are moments that stand out from the chaos of everyday as shining beacons. In many ways, one might say that the whole effort of humankind through the millennia of history has been to capture these fleeting moments of fulfillment and make them a part of everyday existence.”
– Dr Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, University of Chicago
Find your moments that stand out from the chaos.
4. Hydrate. 5% dehydration = a 30% decline in performance. Stay hydrated.

5. Movement. Exercise is the most underused antidepressant on the planet, and it’s free.
6. Breathwork. Learning to regulate and control your breath requires complete focus and detachment from anything else. This is pure escapism.
7. Chase the “Helpers High” – the positive feelings of warmth and energy experienced after performing selfless acts of kindness.

8. Uncertainty = growth. Open your mind to new things.
9. The more choices we have, the harder our decision is to make. Put strategies in place to reduce your choices and decisions will become clearer.
10. The further we get from nature, the sicker we become.
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive. Because what the world needs more of are people who have come alive.”
– Howard Thurman
